Glucose + Oxygen -------- energy + carbon dioxide + water
Glucose and oxygen are the substrates whilst carbo dioxide, energy, and water are the products.
If we do not have an enzymes to break the glucose molecules we have to add energy. An example of this is combustion.
Enzyme is a catylyst which will join with oxygen and glucose to form an activative complex, wekaening the structure without the need for extreme heat or pH conditions.
Notice on the graph, the affect of the enzymes are to reduce the energy of activation.
We could say that enzymes make the reactions occur 'faster' or 'easily'.
