- Glucose + Oxygen -------- energy + carbon dioxide + water
- Glucose and oxygen are the substrates whilst carbo dioxide, energy, and water are the products.
- If we do not have an enzymes to break the glucose molecules we have to add energy. An example of this is combustion.
- Enzyme is a catylyst which will join with oxygen and glucose to form an activative complex, wekaening the structure without the need for extreme heat or pH conditions.
- Notice on the graph, the affect of the enzymes are to reduce the energy of activation.
- We could say that enzymes make the reactions occur 'faster' or 'easily'.
